Elon Musk

The Rise of Electric Era

Everyone has heard of Elon Musk, but for those who don’t know him – he is often stated as the ‘Real Life Iron Man’. Elon Reeve Musk is South African born Canadian American business magnate, investor, engineer, and inventor.

He is the founder, CEO and CTO of SpaceX, the company of which he dreamed about at an age  when we used to think about Pokemon’s and Mario. The idea was not about travelling to space or finding water on extraterrestrial planets, but it was more about colonization on an entirely different planet. The Objective was to make this dream, cheaper. Elon Musk cared more about, “How this dream can be achieved at lower costs?” than the space journey itself.

Even NASA sent space shuttles and Russia was leading too; however the goal was to achieve the same at a cost that can be brought down to such a level so that the travel expenses costs less than the research. He said he knew nothing about rocket science or space travel but when asked to the scientists at SpaceX  they said, “He will not let you go unless he gains 90% of the knowledge that you have.”

He is the co-founder, CEO and product architect of Tesla Inc., formerly  known as Tesla motors. Tesla Motors is an American automaker, energy storage company and also solar panel manufacturer. Though founded by Martin Eberhard back in 2003; today when you talk about Tesla, you think of one name i.e. Elon Musk. No one ever thought about Electric cars in a way as he did. The concept of electric cars existed way before in time, yet to turn this idea into reality and make it a daily accessible mode of transportation is one of the many achievements by this Iron Man.

Elon Musk TweetElon Musk has emerged well and been a part of some amazing ventures viz. Tesla, SpaceX, Solar City and Hyper-loop. However, Is he the only person who is taking such measures for a change in the world? Is he the only one taking actions regarding the use of electrically powered vehicles and regarding the colonization of humans on distant planets? The answer is NO! Not many people have heard of these other companies who are taking as much efforts as Elon Musk into building a better tomorrow. There are others out there who have impressed and attracted our curiosity much the same as Tesla did during its inception. These are the true competitors of Tesla and one such is the Faraday Future’s FF91.

This year’s CES tech show in Las Vegas showed the competitor for Tesla. The FF91, Faraday Future’s flagship vehicle. As cool as the name  sounds ‘FARADAY FUTURE’ is an American start-up technology company focused on the development of intelligent electric vehicles. When you take a first look at FF91, they just steal the thunder from Tesla vehicles (p250D). The FF91 comes with beautiful LED setup with all the features originally seen in Tesla.

The Start-up Faraday Future has unveiled a self-driving electric car that it says can accelerate from zero to 60mph (97km/h) in 2.39 seconds (tested by MKBHD). It claims to be faster than Tesla. The two models launched at CES 2017 were Beta models. These two were the first working prototypes released by Faraday Future. Although they are not in production as of yet, the very idea of someone competing against the Iron Man feels amazing (Just the way everybody liked Black Panther in Captain America Civil War).

The Beta models launched at CES 2017 Tech Show focused on two objectives. One was ‘Self-Parking and Self-Driving‘ while the other was for ‘Performance and Speed demo‘. Faraday Future might have brought the demos for people but lets not forget the condition of Tesla after the loss of Roadster back in 2008. The FF91 seems to be the only one playing alongside Tesla. However, there are similar activities witnessed from BMW and Mercedes. This shows that there’s lots of electric cars coming ahead for saving our fuel.

That was about the future of Cars and its many competitors. However, Elon Musk is not just facing competition for Tesla, but for SpaceX as well. Yes! You heard it right. In fact, SpaceX has been facing competition even before it was established and the competitor is none other than the Amazon.

Blue Origin v/s SpaceX

Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.com has a diversified interest in Aerospace and Newspaper. He is the founder and manufacturer of Blue Origin (founded in  2000). The test flights for Blue Origin began in 2015. This shows that even though Elon Musk started later, he leads here too. So we  can say “They are also in there Beta versions”.

However, they are planning their human spaceflight around 2018. SpaceX received funding from NASA after there successful launch in 2010 and after achieving the milestone again in 2012. Blue Origin is funded by Jeff Bezos alone, as he can easily afford it being the second richest person after Bill Gates. Though they share similar ideas, Musk and Bezos have never been on the path of friendship.

SpaceX v/s BlueOrigin FlightsSometimes its seems the same as Jobs and Gates during their times (in terms of rivalry that is). However, there’s still a long way to go for Elon and a really long way for Bezos. The mode of transportation is changing drastically. There’s a lot to look forward to about Musk’s future plans for the Earth. Being a Musk fan myself, I would love to tell you more about his future journeys and adventures. Also about his plans for the Solar City, Tesla’s Power Packs (batteries capable of powering your home) and of course the Hyper-loop (the special mode of transportation). That’s all for today. Leave a comment below to share your opinions and reviews regarding the recent developments in technology. I would like to leave you with one of Elon’s quote,

“I could either watch it happen or be a part of it” – Elon Musk
